There is a boy. An ordinary boy, who attends school, makes some friends and then graduates from there. He joins an engineering college, completes his engineering and then gets into an Indian MNC. He fools around for about two years, appears for the CAT and finally joins one of the top B-Schools in India.
This appears to be a very lame story, isn’t it? People can say that this guy's life has been a very usual one which every normal individual has (i.e. predictable). There is nothing interesting which has happened in this guy's life. But they see it from ‘colored lenses’ because they are on the other side of the road. If you look at this story from the side on which he is standing, it might have been an altogether different outlook. His take might be that he has had a wonderful life which has been studded with twists and turns aplenty. Same story- such contrasting versions!!! Is it really possible???
Let us see what our protagonist has to say:
In his words, "Year-2002, done with my schooling and the entrance exams for the ‘Mecca’ (a.k.a IITs) and other premier engineering colleges (and performing badly), I was about to land in a B.Sc. course. In fact I had actually joined it but suddenly I got admission in an engineering college (It was like being declared not out in a referral to third umpire) and I started with my B.Tech in Computer Science (Yeah that was the ‘in-thing’ at that time).
Three years of engineering college went by in no time (actually it’s a long time if you graduate from a UPTU college) and I was standing at a very crucial juncture of my life. With placement scenario not very good (at that time) in our college, everyone was nervous. Our placement cell could trap only one recruiter, in their fishing net, who would come to our campus every year. After that we had to go for group campus placements (our lifeboats) in NCR colleges.
My score read 0-3 (3 companies appeared for, 0- offers in hand). Then, we went for a certain group campus and the very next day I had another off campus interview call. Guess what, I had two offers in hand within 24 hrs (a friend of mine texted me the result while I was in the ticket queue at NDLS); a thing I had never imagined even in the wildest of my dreams. That's what I call "the unpredictable".
Enjoying the last year of engineering, I always used to say that I would never go for an MBA because I am sick of studying. After a couple of years, I appeared for the 'holy CAT' (an annual festival where around 3 lac desperate devotees a.k.a. engineers (yeah most of them are engineers only) who are sick of their jobs (as a rule these are IT jobs only!!) come regularly to try their luck) and landed in one of the top B-schools in India. I owe the credit for this to my best friend, Abhishek because he was the one who inspired me to go for it. The story of unpredictability doesn't have a full stop here as well because it is following me even at my B-school …."
Yes, life goes in that way. As they say: “The only predictable thing about life is that it is unpredictable!” You never know what course it would take. Though this is a very simple story but I wanted to share it with you because it’s my own. And, what better can you write in your first blog than your own story. Hope you enjoyed reading it and do let me know your views. We accept both bouquets and brickbats with a smile.
